Firefighters called to Okanagan river channel in Penticton, yet again

FILE PHOTO - Floaters are seen on the Okanagan River channel in Penticton.

Penticton firefighters were call once again to the Okanagan River channel to rescue floaters for the second time in two days.

Crews were dispatched at around 3:30 p.m. today, July 22, when a couple became separated while floating down the rushing high water and failed to show up on time at the end of the channel.

Deputy fire chief Chris Forster says crews performed a search, rather than a rescue, and were eventually able to find both parties along the channel.

Members were called to the channel yesterday afternoon after a group of channel floaters became entangled in the bridge abutment on Green Mountain Road.
