Fire on Kelowna Costco roof doused before firefighters arrive

FILE PHOTO

Contractors suppressed a fire when gasoline ignited on the roof at Kelowna's Costco.

Black smoke could be seen from Harvey Avenue at around 9:45 a.m. today, Sept. 6, after a pressure washing machine ignited while being refuelled, according to a Kelowna Fire Department news release.

Contractors were pressure washing the building's roof and managed to put out the blaze before firefighters arrived.

No one was injured in the accidental fire.

The pressure washer was damaged in the fire, but only staining and charring was left on the roof's metal sheeting.

No alarms were triggered in the store.
