KELOWNA – Due to exceedingly dry conditions, the lookout trail at Dilworth Mountain Park has been closed to the public until further notice.

The City says the section of the park off Chilcotin Crescent is now closed after the region declared an extreme fire hazard rating.

Urban forestry supervisor Andrew Hunsberger says this particular area was identified as a potential fire risk in the past.

“With the current conditions, we need to take the necessary precautions,” he says in a media release.

City staff will continue to monitor the situation and the park will reopen once it is assessed safe.

Campfires and barbecues are not allowed in City or Regional District parks and smoking is prohibited in all parks and public spaces.
