Fight involving machete near Adams Lake lands man in hospital

CHASE - Alcohol was a factor in a fight between two men at a home near Adams Lake in the Shuswap earlier this week.

Chase RCMP say a 44-year-old man from the Chase area will appear in Kamloops Provincial court on June 4 after striking a 50-year-old man with a machete-style knife.

Police responded to a call about the fight at a home in the 8500 block of Holding Road near Adams Lake around 3:25 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, according to an RCMP media release.

Officers arrived to find the victim with a serious hand injury. The man was taken to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops by air ambulance and will require surgery for his injuries.

RCMP say the suspect fled the scene but later turned himself into the Chase RCMP detachment the next day. He was placed under arrest and is looking at charges of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and mischief.

Police say the victim and suspect know each other, and that alcohol was a factor, but the motive for fight in unknown.
