UBC Okanagan student Cade Desjarlais will be the NDP Candidate for Kelowna- Lake Country in the federal election expected to be called this weekend.

Desjarlais is entering his second year as a political science major at UBCO and was acclaimed as the NDP candidate earlier this week, according to an NDP news release.

He sits on the UBCO student’s union board of directors and on its finance and oversight committees.

Desjarlais is an advocate for accessible mental health resources, working on the Youth Action Advisory Council at the Foundry, with the Canadian Mental Health Association and Bell Let’s Talk, the release says.

“I am especially focused on the expansions of our health care system to include mental health and pharma care while also addressing the affordability problem Kelowna residents and students know all too well,” Desjarlais said in the news release. “I also am determined to tackle climate change and I am very excited to see the NDP are just as committed”.

He was born and raised in Kelowna and has lived in the riding for the last 19 years, going to school and working in the restaurant and hospitality industries.
