VERNON - Justice Minister Peter MacKay is one of several high profile speakers lined up as part of a speaker series for the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce.

MacKay will speak at a luncheon on Wednesday, July 8, about ‘a successful budget, a secure Canada.’

“Mr. MacKay’s visit to Vernon highlights a very busy July for us,” chamber general manager Dan Rogers says in a release. “We will also be getting a critical update on the economic outlook for Canada by Warren Jestin, senior vice president and chief economist with Scotiabank.”

The Chamber’s speaker series aims to raise awareness of the issues impacting economic development in the North Okanagan and beyond. Veteran Liberal MP Ralph Goodale recently spoke at the chamber and Jestin will be in the city for a breakfast meeting on July 15.

A lawyer prior to being elected to Parliament in 1997, MacKay has been re-elected five consecutive times. Two years ago he was appointed Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada. Previous minister roles had him overseeing foreign affairs and national defence.

More information including registration is available through the Chamber’s website under events listing.
