PENTICTON - The One World Penticton Multicultural Festival will be an attempt to liven up the cold and wet month of February.

During the month of February, Penticton will be celebrating multiculturalism, through entertainment, cooking, dance, workshops and more, according to Kerri Milton, executive director of the Downtown Penticton Association.

Milton said next month is a slow one when it comes to events and Penticton should have a multicultural showcase comparable to what happens in bigger cities.

This year the Penmar Community Arts Society Theatre will be showcasing movies that acknowledge Black History Month, films that celebrate Asian culture, movies highlighting Africa and Europe, Bollywood films and examples of South Asia cinema. There will be films like Wolf, Kung Fu Hustle, Old Boy, Tsotsi, City of God and Bollywood Hollywood.

There will also be cultural-appropriate food to go along with whatever is happening at the Penmar on a given February week.

And on March 1 there will be a large Bollywood themed party held at the Penticton Yacht and Tennis Club.

Milton said since she started this project it has exploded with interest. It was first just a single evening planned but more and more people and suggestions kept coming forward.

"It kind of organically got huge," she said.

More details on times, events, ticket prices and other venue locations will be coming soon and can be found on the association's website.
