CIS Roundup: Marauders open season with win over Varsity Blues

TORONTO - Asher Hastings threw for 383 yards and five touchdowns as the defending Yates Cup champion McMaster Marauders opened their season with a 55-33 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday in Canadian Interuniversity Sport football action.

Dan Vandervoort caught five of Hastings' TD passes and finished with 10 receptions for 168 yards. Dan Petermann caught the other McMaster (1-0) touchdown while Wayne Moore and Kasean Davis ran in TDs.

Simon Nassar was 29 for 49 for 360 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for the Varsity Blues (0-1).

Toronto's Divante Smith scored three touchdowns and ran for 112 yards on 18 carries.

The Marauders, who fell to the Montreal Carabins in last year's Vanier Cup, outscored Toronto 31-7 in the second half.

WATERLOO, Ont. — Running back Johnny Augustine ran in three touchdowns and ran for 149 yards and caught two passes for 20 yards as Guelph (1-0) crushed Waterloo (0-1).
