Where to find the tastiest soups simmering in Kamloops, Okanagan

The weather is getting chilly and thankfully homemade soups are warm and ready for you at restaurants in Kamloops and the Okanagan.

This week iNFONews.ca went to social media to ask where to find the most delicious soups to warm up with and discovered some tasty options.

Here are the results of our informal survey:

KAMLOOPS

Kamloops Artisan’s Bazaar and Soup Desire Cafe has a rotating menu of 10 homemade international soups with two fresh options to choose from every day and frozen bags of soups to purchase and take home.

Located at 705 Victoria Street, the cafe is open from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

A cup of soup costs $5.95 while a bowl costs $7.95 and they come with fresh bread or the option of adding a sandwich.

The Stock Pot Cafe offers two made-from-scratch soups every weekday, one with a broth base and one with a cream base, and it also has frozen soups to buy.

Located at #7 - 970 Laval Crescent, the cafe is open from Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

A cup of soup costs $4.95 while a bowl is $6.95, and you can add a bun for $0.95.

The soups at The Art We Are downtown cafe are made in house with fresh ingredients, and change daily with at least three different options per day, one of which is both gluten free and vegan. 

Located at 246 Victoria Street, the cafe is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

A cup of soup costs $3.95, a small bowl costs $9.60 and a large bowl costs $10.75. All soups except for the cup size come with homemade cornbread or gluten free/vegan cornbread.

The Jamaican Kitchen restaurant offers a choice of homemade curry chicken soup or split pea and jerk soup made fresh everyday.

Located at 451 Tranquille Road, the restaurant is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

A bowl of soups costs $6.50 and is served with a Johnny cake.

Harvest Moon Bakery offers a choice of two homemade soups made fresh daily, and hot or frozen litres of soups to purchase.

Located at 107 Yew Street, the soup is on at the bakery every day of the week from noon until closing or until sold out. 

A small bowl costs $7.50, a large bowl costs $9.50 and they come with fresh baked bread.

KELOWNA 

The Little Hobo Soup and Sandwich Shop makes over 300 kinds of soups from scratch for a menu that rotates throughout the year, and every day there are four soup options to choose from including vegan, vegetarian and meat-based options.

Customers can also order soup flights to sample more than one, or purchase soup to go.

Located at 596 Leon Avenue, the shop is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

A bowl of soup costs between $5.25 and $8.50 depending on the size, and comes with a homemade biscuit for dipping.

Mad Mango Cafe makes soup fresh every day including pho, curry-based soups, wonton soups and Laksa soup.

Located downtown at 551 Bernard Avenue, the cafe is open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

A bowl of soup cost between $9.90 and $15.20 depending on your order.

Wood Fire Bakery soups are always made fresh from scratch with options like mushroom soup, beef barley soup and wood fire gumbo soup to enjoy.

Located at 2041 Harvey Avenue, the German restaurant and bakery is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

A bowl of soup costs $6 for a cup of soup and there are many sandwiches, salads and fresh baked goods to order for those who want a side.

The Bike Shop Café and Catering Company makes delicious, healthy soups from scratch with two fresh options to choose from daily. 

Located at 101 - 1357 Ellis Street, it's is open from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. 

A 12 ounce bowl costs $7.50, a 20 ounce bowl costs $9.50 and there are many kinds of salads and baked options to order for those who want to add a side.

VERNON

Helmuts Sausage Kitchen makes artisan meats and charcuterie, as well as a wide variety of fresh homemade soups to enjoy at the location or to take home in litres, hot or frozen.

Located at 2103 48th Avenue, with a second outlet at 1675 Commerce Avenue in Kelowna, the store is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

A bowl of soup costs $7.99 and comes with a fresh baked bun.

Rosalinda’s is a family diner known for its all-day breakfasts and big burgers, but homemade hamburger soup is also on the menu.

Located at 2810 33 Street, the diner is open from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every day of the week.

Pho Sate Restaurant offers authentic Vietnamese cuisine including a variety of hot noodle soups, pho and sate. 

Located at 2904 33 Street, the restaurant is open from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

A small bowl of soup costs between $8.99 and $13.49 depending on the order while a large bowl of soup costs between $10.99 and $16.99. All soups come with a side of bean sprouts, lime, cilantro and Thai basil.

PENTICTON 

Rise and Shine Coffee House in Okanagan Falls serves a variety of from scratch soups and stews every day made with fresh produce that can be enjoyed at the location or purchased to go.

Located at 837 Main Street, the restaurant is open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

A cup of soup costs $6, while a large bowl costs $12 and soups come with herb and olive oil focaccia garlic bread. Soup flights are also available.

Brodo Kitchen has five homemade soups on the menu at all times along with a daily featured soup and the option of a soup flight.

Located at #101 484 Main Street, the restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

A small bowl costs $7.14 and large costs $8.52 and there is a variety of fresh salads, breads, flat breads and sandwiches to add for those who want a side.

Gratify is a cafe that has two feature made-from-scratch soups on the burner for the fall and winter season in place of the regular house soup.

Located at 544 Main Street, the cafe is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

An eight ounce bowl of soup cost $6, and 12 ounce costs $8 and a 16 ounce $10, and dishes come with house made chips on the side.
