OTTAWA - Offensive lineman Jon Gott signed a two-year contract extension with the Ottawa Redblacks on Tuesday.

The deal takes Gott through the 2018 season.

Gott, 30, helped Ottawa reach the Grey Cup last year. The Redblacks acquired the bearded lineman from the Calgary Stampeders for the rights to offensive lineman Marwan Hage and the first overall pick in the 2014 CFL draft.

"Jon has been the anchor of our offensive line from Day 1," Ottawa general manager Marcel Desjardins said in a statement. "His contributions to the Redblacks both on and off the field have been tremendous and to be able to secure his services through the 2018 season is great news for our team and our city."

Gott, an Edmonton native, said it was an easy decision to re-sign in Ottawa.

"I am happy and excited to re-sign and stay in Ottawa for two more years," said Gott. "I have enjoyed my time here in Ottawa so far and am happy I get to continue playing for not only a great organization, but the best fans in the CFL as well.

"I'm excited to build off last year as a team and bring a Grey Cup back to Ottawa! Fear the beard!"
