Fatal Penticton house fire deemed suspicious

RCMP say an early morning fatal house fire in Penticton, Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, was suspicious.

PENTICTON - An early morning house fire in Penticton yesterday that resulted in the death of an occupant is being treated as suspicious by RCMP.

Emergency personnel were called to a fully involved residential fire located at 221 Huth Ave. in Penticton yesterday, Feb. 10 at around 3 a.m.

Penticton fire department personnel found the body of a resident of the home inside once the fire was extinguished.

“The incident is considered suspicious and our investigation is in its early stages," Penticton RCMP spokesperson James Grandy says in a media release issued today, Feb. 11.

Investigators were summoned to the scene from the Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional Detachment’s General Investigation Section, the Forensic Identification Section and the Penticton Fire Department.

The B.C. Coroners Service also attended the incident and are assisting in the investigation.
