A Central Okanagan family is ecstatic after learning that their stolen puppy has been found.

Nala, a five-month-old Pyrenees-lab mix was taken from the shelter at the Vernon Curling Club, Monday, Aug. 3, while Nicola Sanders' son was sleeping. The shelter at the curling club is run by Turning Points Collaborative Society and residents are allowed to have pets.

The black dog has very distinguishable speckled white paws and is very friendly. Since the dog was taken, Sanders, her son and his girlfriend have been searching for her. They've put up posters, called the police, local vets and the BC SPCA shelter, as well as posting to social media.

She said some people in the shelter had tried to take the dog during the night, and around 4 a.m. her son woke up to find the animal gone.

Sanders received a call from K9 Control, Vernon's animal control service, Aug. 7, that she had been found.

"It was a happy reunion," she said.
