PENTICTON - From skiing to swimming to skating, the South Okanagan is full of activities planned for Family Day on Monday.

The City of Penticton teamed up with the operator of the South Okanagan Events Centre to provide some family-oriented activities at the events centre and community pool on Monday, Feb. 12.

A toonie swim is scheduled at the Penticton Community Centre Pool from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

From noon until 2 p.m., families can participate in a free skate at the South Okanagan Events Centre with the Penticton Vees. There will be free hot chocolate and coffee, and skate rentals will be available for $2 with proceeds to go to the Penticton Minor Hockey Association. Helmets are required for the skate.

A barbecue will be set up in front of gate one at the events centre from noon to 2 p.m. Cost is by donation.

A free showing of “Despicable Me 3” will be presented at the Cleland Community Theatre from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

In Osoyoos, a Family Day Disco Skate takes place from noon until 2 p.m. at the Sun Bowl Arena. Admission is free, with free hot dogs, fountain drinks and cupcakes available while supplies last.

Family Day in Oliver is being celebrated with a neon free skate at the Oliver Arena. Participants are asked to wear their brightest and boldest colours. Face painting, music, lights on the ice and hot chocolate will liven up the afternoon.

Baldy Mountain Resort, 35 kilometres east of Oliver, is offering 50 per cent off ski tickets on Family Day. For more information, see the Baldy Mountain Resort website.

Apex Mountain Resort, west of Penticton, is also offering 50 per cent off full day tickets for Family Day. See the Apex website for further details.

Summerland is offering a free skate at the arena from noon until 1 p.m., followed by a Summerland Steam hockey game. Twenty-five family passes to the game will be given away, which starts at 2 p.m. Call Summerland Parks and Recreation at 250-494-0447 to have your name added to the list.
