False shooting complaint leads Kamloops RCMP to wanted man

A false gun complaint resulted in the arrest of a wanted man in Kamloops.

The Tk'emlups Rural RCMP received a report that a man had been shot with a firearm inside a residence in the 700 block of East Shuswap Road, according to an RCMP release.

Officers immediately set up an area of containment around the home in order to ensure public safety and launch an investigation. There were several occupants in the residence, who were called out one at a time and safely taken into police custody.

RCMP seized two pellet guns from the residence, and found that there was in fact no one injured. The incident is still under investigation.

"Our initial response to a potentially high-risk call will always be to err on the side of caution until we can determine otherwise," Sgt Darren Michels said in the release. "Our response is always measured and includes an ongoing risk assessment as it is easier to scale back a response, than scale up. We do this to ensure public and police safety."

One man who exited the residence was found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest on an unrelated matter. He was taken to RCMP cells, scheduled for a future court date and released.
