RCMP officers will be setting up roadside checks throughout the Interior this month in the hopes of finding, and taking drunk drivers off the road.
Along with the effort to catch impaired drivers, police are also asking people to plan a safe ride home if they are out celebrating over the holiday season, according to an RCMP media release.
RCMP say while the number of people killed in crashes caused by drunk drivers is dropped significantly over the 40 years of the Counter Attack program, it is still a major concern and one of the top contributing factors in fatal collision.
“If your holiday festivities include alcohol, plan ahead to ensure you or someone you know is not going to drive impaired,” RCMP spokesperson Const. Lesley Smith says in the release. “Arrange a designated driver, shuttle van, call a taxi or take transit.”
