TORONTO - Health Canada says a batch of a facial moisturizer for men is being recalled because it is contaminated with bacteria.
The product being recalled is RE9 Advanced for Men Facial Moisturizer, lot number 043904.
The product is sold by Arbonne International Distribution, through its network of sales consultants.
Testing done by the company found the batch contained Aerococcus viridans, a bacterium which can pose serious health risks, especially to people with weakened immune systems.
It could also pose a risk to men who have damaged skin or skin with cuts or nicks from shaving.
Aerococcus viridans is associated with infections of the blood, joints, lining of the heart and heart valves as well as with meningitis.
People who bought the recalled product can call the company at 1-888-ARBONNE (272-6663) for more information about the recall.
Health Canada, which is monitoring the recall, says it has not received reports of people becoming sick after using the moisturizer.
