PENTICTON –The Penticton Vees Junior A Hockey Club is pleased to announce defenseman Dante Fabbro has been named one of five finalists for the Canadian Junior Hockey League Rookie of the Year Award.
The CJHL announced the five finalists Monday morning and Fabbro is the only defenseman in the final five. The Rookie of the Year award is presented on a national level and is one of seven CJHL Awards to be handed out the week of May 4 to 8.
Fabbro, 16, was the youngest blue-liner on the Vees roster but despite his age, he finished with four goals and 33 points in 44 games. Fabbro missed 14 games mostly due to his time wearing the maple leaf, as he played at both the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and at the World Junior A Challenge
The Coquitlam native didn’t take a step back in the BCHL post-season, as he led all Vees defensemen in scoring with four goals and 15 points 22 games, as he helped the Vees capture their second Fred Page Cup championship in the last four years.
The Canadian Junior Hockey League will recognize the best Junior A talent from across all 10 Junior ‘A’ leagues with their national awards. The CJHL awards will include Most Valuable Player, Top Forward, Top Defenseman, Top Goaltender and Top Rookie as well as Coach of the Year and Top NHL Prospect.
