For the first time, Three Valley Gap’s ghost town will give people a scare during Halloween season.

Travellers along Highway 1 can’t miss the iconic red roofs of the Three Valley Gap Chateau built by Gordon and Ethel Bell in the 1950s.

The Bell's Three Valley dream began with a small service stop and motel. Since the opening of the Rogers Pass east of Revelstoke, it’s been growing.

Its ghost town has attracted paranormal hunters from across Canada. This September, film crews with The Other Side, a paranormal documentary series, filmed at the famous Hotel Bellevue and the series will air on TV next fall near Halloween, said museum coordinator Rosina Bell. You can watch the show on APTN.

“There is a lot of energy, not just from the Bellevue but throughout the whole ghost town and it just depends on how intuitive you are,” she said. “People who want to be scared and feel the energy and want to be scared, will and people who don’t believe in it say ‘nah, there’s nothing here.’ I’ve had both types of people here.”

The ghost town looks like it's been there for the best part of a century and houses more than 25 buildings including St. Stephen's Church, Hotel Bellevue, a saloon, jewellery store and more together with a wide assortment of artifacts from across B.C.

“This is the first time Three Valley is hosting an event here in the ghost town,” Bell said, adding the Chateau is closed for the season.

Scavenger hunts and train rides will be held in the dark, weather permitting, and customers will be able to explore parts of the ghost town, including a haunted train cabin and enjoy other spooky activities. Prizes will be awarded for best costume and best dance.

This is the first event because so many people have asked for it, Bell said. Tickets will be available to purchase at the door Oct. 28, 29 and 30 and the event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.

More information can be found by calling the chateau’s regular line at 250-837-2109.

If all goes well, “I’m hoping to make it an annual event,” Bell said.

“It should be quite a fun evening.”
