Expect lots of food and fun at these upcoming weekend events in Kamloops, Okanagan

The Silver Star Beer and Wine Festival brings in craft brewers and distillers from around the province.

There is no shortage of good eats, sips and snacks available at a variety of events and festivals happening this weekend.

Over in Penticton's Skaha Lake Park the popular Dragon Boat Festival is on all weekend. There will be food trucks, a vendor’s market and a beverage garden on site for visitors to enjoy as 76 boat dragon boat teams from all over western Canada race.

In an announcement by the City, the public is reminded the park will be congested and the sport court will be closed for two days to make room for the beer garden. The festival runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 9 and Sunday Sept. 10, and more information can be found here

The annual Peachland Fall Fair is on for its 104th year and this year’s theme is Sew It, Grow It, Show It. The public is invited to enter baking, preserves, plants, knits and other handmade or grown creations with a chance to win a prize, or come by to spectate and have a piece of peach pie.

Located at the Peachland Community Center on 6th Street, the fair runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10. Go here for more information.

East Kelowna Market is hosting an end of summer artisan, craft, maker and baker market in the gardens at the Sperling Vineyards. Live musicians will be playing under a garden tent and visitors are invited to stroll and explore the market “with a wine in hand,” according to the website

Located at 1405 the East Kelowna Market event is running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10. 

Over in Vernon, the second annual Silver Star Beer & Cider Fest is happening at SilverStar Mountain Resort and will feature some of the province’s finest brews and food, a Polson Market pop-up, live music and games. Craft breweries, cideries and distilleries from around the region will be there to showcase their crafts.

Located at the resort at 123 Shortt St. the festival fun runs from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9. There are not many tickets left, get yours here.

The third annual Okanagan Rail Ride on the Okanagan Rail Trail takes riders along the beautiful Kalamalka Lake between Coldstream and Lake Country to arrive back for a BBQ, drinks and live music at Alexanders Beach Pub.

Riders are invited to gather at the event parking area at the Coldstream Station beside Sun Country Cycle on Kalamalka Road close to KM 0 of the Okanagan Rail Trail at 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10, and are asked to check in at the event tent. Register here.

Kamloops folks can head over to a big block party in the community of Valleyview for a big baking contest, either as contestants or spectators. Also in the works is a painted rock contest. The free event will have bouncy castles, face painting, games, prizes and much more.

The party takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Valleyview Centennial Park.
