The Ministry of Transportation will be paving a piece of Highway 33 east of Kelowna this summer to create a safer road for drivers travelling to Big White Ski Resort.

The province is spending $6.5 million to resurface and replace a concrete roadside barrier on a 39.5-kilometre section of Highway 33 from the Carmi Creek Bridge to Big White Road, and to resurface a four-kilometre stretch of Big White Road, according to a Ministry of Transportation media release.

The project, awarded to Kelowna-based Emil Anderson Construction, will improve the highway’s safety and make it a more comfortable driving experience, the ministry said.

The project is expected to begin this week, although the ministry does not provide an exact start date in the release issued today, June 29, or say how long the construction will take.

The ministry said drivers can expect minor delays and occasional single-lane alternating traffic once the project begins. and encourage drivers to check the DriveBC website here for updates on delays and closures.
