PENTICTON - Naramata is adding additional properties to its fire protection area.

Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen directors have adopted a bylaw, which will incorporate more than 90 properties that were not included in the community’s original service.

The protection area is also expanding to include several properties in the North Naramata Road, Glenfir Road, Chute Lake and Indian Rock Road areas, according to a regional district media release.

Naramata’s fire department has been in operation for 61 years, with plans in the works to build a secondary station in the Chute Lake Road area to support the recent expansion to the fire protection area, the release states. A medical first response program will also be initiated to provide patient care until an ambulance gets to the incident scene.

“I feel it is extremely important that we offer these services to as many residents of Area 'E' as possible,” Electoral Area 'E' director Karla Kozakevich says in the release, adding she is proud of the area’s volunteer firefighters and first responders.
