Two generous donors are giving roughly $1 million to graduating Central Okanagan students.

According to a letter sent out to parents of Central Okanagan Public Schools students, each Grade 12 student in the district is being offered $500.

"We applaud you for overcoming the many obstacles you have faced from online learning, condensed semesters, loss of time with friends, cancellation of sports and very non-traditional graduation ceremonies and celebrations," the letter reads. "We want you to know how proud your community is of each and everyone of you for persevering in these unprecedented times and succeeding."

"As recognition for your efforts, we will be gifting $500 to each Grade 12 student in School District No. 23."

The funds can be used however each student sees fit, according to the letter, signed by donors only known currently as Lance and Tammy.

The donors are working with the school district to distribute the funds in the coming weeks.

"It's a very generous gesture for our... Grade 12s, I'm happy somebody has the wherewithal and is able to recognize the challenges they've faced and accomplishments they've had," said school district superintendent Kevin Kaardal.

Kaardal said the district has just under 2,000 Grade 12 students.

The letter also includes a form request for Grade 12 student information. A cheque will be delivered to the address provided by students in the next three to four weeks. It asks students to email the district's tech support if the request form isn't working.

The deadline for Grade 12 students to submit their information is at the end of the day, June 23.
