Evening bridge jump results in serious injuries for Kelowna woman

KELOWNA – Boaters found a seriously injured woman under the William Bennett Bridge last night.

RCMP say the woman was conscious and breathing, but verbally unresponsive when emergency crews arrived around 7:20 p.m. yesterday, July 5.

Someone on a sailboat spotted the woman roughly 50 feet from shore and called 911, according to an RCMP media release.

The release does not say if she was in the water or hit solid ground, but does say she likely sustained lower body injuries.

“RCMP investigators have reason to believe the woman may have intentionally jumped from the bridge span and had been laying for more than 35 minutes injured,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says in the release.

The 30-year-old Kelowna woman was transported to shore where an ambulance took her to hospital.

Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
