STOCKHOLM - A Swedish court has ruled that a midwife who was denied employment had not been discriminated against because of her refusal to perform abortions.
Sweden's Labor Court said Wednesday that it found no cause to suspect that Ellinor Grimmark's "freedom of opinion and expression had been violated."
Grimmark said she has been refused several jobs at hospitals because of her objection to performing abortions.
She told national news agency TT that she was disappointed but had expected Wednesday's verdict.
She was ordered to pay 950,000 kronor ($105,000) in legal fees and damages of 606,000 kronor to the Jonkoping County Council.
Grimmark told reporters that her legal team would now consider whether to take the case to the European Court of Human Rights.
