LONDON - Former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks is to appear in court to face charges over Britain's phone hacking scandal that has rocked Rupert Murdoch's media empire.

Westminster Magistrates Court officials said Brooks will appear Wednesday to face charges over the scandal that exploded last year when it emerged that reporters at Murdoch's News of the World tabloid, that Brooks once edited, had hacked into the voicemails of public figures. The scandal triggered three police investigations and over 40 people have been arrested.

Brooks was charged last month with three charges of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. Prosecutors say she tried to conceal evidence from police.

Brook's husband Charlie Brooks, her personal assistant, her chauffeur, and two News international security personnel will also appear in court.
