Environment Canada issues significant rainfall warning for South Thompson

KAMLOOPS - A cold front is expected to make its way through the South Thompson this evening and could bring plenty of rain with it.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement today, Aug. 23, that could potentially produce significant rainfall for the South Thompson, 100 Mile House and northern sections of the Fraser Canyon tonight.

Meteorologists say rainfall amounts up to 10 millimetres are expected but will occur in brief and heavy downpours and there is also the chance for isolated thunderstorms to develop.

Environment Canada says the rainfall amounts themselves do not meet warning criteria but the potential for mudslides is a possibility.

Motorists in the area are asked to use caution and are encouraged to visit  Drive B.C.'s website for road conditions.
