CENTRAL OKANAGAN - Local candidates in the federal election will be trading barbs at five different all-candidates forums in the riding of Kelowna Lake Country over the next several weeks.
Students at the Okanagan campus of the University of British Columbia will be first to hear from the Conservative, Liberal and NDP candidates at a student forum in the atrium of the Fipke Centre, 333 University Way from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Kelowna Chamber of Commerce is hosting a breakfast meeting and forum Friday, Sept. 25, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Manteo Resort, 3762 Lakeshore Road. Tickets are $40, or $25 for members.
Seniors are up next with a forum hosted by the Canadian Association of Retired Persons from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the Mary Irwin Theater in the Rotary Centre for the Arts, 421 Cawston Ave. The forum is free but participants must reserve a seat in advance.
The University Women’s Club is holding a forum in the Seniors Centre at 1350 Richter St. beginning 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 5.
Two days later, the Lake Country Chamber of Commerce is hosting a forum in the Creekside Theatre in George Elliot high school, 10241 Bottom Wood Lake Rd. in Lake Country from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
The federal election is scheduled for Oct. 19, 2015. Local candidates include Conservative Ron Cannan, Liberal Stephen Fuhr and the NDP's Norah Bowman. The Green Party of Canada is not running a candidate in the riding.
