An eight-year-old Kamloops golfer has finished competing at the IMG Academy Junior World Championship in San Diego where he tied for 16th place.

It’s the second year in a row Everett Quewezance has competed in the three-day championships against the best junior golfers in the world.

“We had a really cool week and he did better than he did last year,” dad Joe Quewezance said. “He had one bad back nine on the first day, but did a personal best round at an 18-hole tournament. It was cool to watch and showed him he can play with the best.”

The father and son are driving home to Kamloops today, July 14. After three days playing five-hour long, 18-hole games, Joe said his son is “just relaxing.”

“It was really exciting,” Everett said. “I was nervous, but I also had a lot of fun.”

Joe said he’s proud of his son and grateful for the experience. The young athletes compete for trophies, gain life experience, make friends and learn a lot about the game.

“Honestly, he loves the golf, but as a dad I love watching him after the round making friends and playing with his buddies.”

In two weeks, the pair are going to compete at the US Kids Golf World Championships in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
