WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. - The SPCA says two dogs rescued from a dumpster near Williams Lake, B.C., survived several days in freezing temperatures by feeding on a moose carcass that was also in the container.
The two heeler-cross dogs were found Tuesday after the Society got a tip the animals were in the dumpster on a native reserve outside of Williams Lake.
SPCA protection officer Kent Kokoska found the dogs and says it's unclear if they fell over the side of the container or were dumped by someone, but he says dead dogs have been found in the same dumpster in the past.
Kokoska says the male dog had an untreated ear injury that had become infected and required more than 24 stitches and the female is being treated with antibiotics for a stomach problem that may be related to eating the moose meat.
He says the dogs were cold and scared when he found them, but both are now doing extremely well.
The SPCA says the dogs will be available for adoption soon.
