Interior Health is warning Penticton drug users to check their supply, after receiving reports of fentanyl being sold as methamphetamine.

IH issued the alert on Friday, July 17, due to the overdose risk related to the alert.

Of tested samples, one drug was cloudy white in colour and wet looking. The other contained red flakes.

Both contained fentanyl.

Anyone who uses an illicit drug is advised to:

  • Avoid using different drugs at the same time or using drugs and alcohol together.
  • Don’t use alone. Leave the door unlocked. Tell someone to check on you.
  • Test by using a small amount, then go slow.
  • Carry a Naloxone kit and know how to use it.
  • Use at an overdose prevention or supervised consumption site if one is near you.

Drug checking is available in Penticton at SOWINS mobile outreach, Pathways Addictions Resource Society and for residents of Burdock and Compass Court.

Overdose prevention sites are available to residents of Burdock and Compass Court.
