Driver killed in head-on crash with semi on Highway 97 in Peachland

West Kelowna RCMP are appealing to the public for help in tracking down a vehicle that may have been involved in a fatal crash.

According to a West Kelowna RCMP media release, the crash took place shortly after 7 a.m. yesterday, Jan. 25, on Highway 97 in Peachland. RCMP do not say were exactly in Peachland the crash took place.

Police say black 2000 Toyota Corolla driving northbound crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a tractor-trailer heading south.

The lone male driver in the Corolla died at the scene. RCMP are not releasing the driver's identity.

The RCMP's Traffic Analyst Unit said the driver of the semi made substantial attempts to stop before the collision took place.

"At this time the cause of the accident is unknown and is still being investigated," Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Const. Mike Della-Paolera said in the release.

"Reports also indicate that a third vehicle was involved that left the scene. That vehicle is described as a black Dodge Caravan which had struck the Corolla after the initial impact with the semi, and then drove off."

RCMP are searching for this vehicle and asking anyone that may have witnessed the incident or has a dash camera recording to contact West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880 and reference file number 2023-4509.
