Dr. Bonnie Henry inspired shoes sold out fast

The Fluevog shoes inspired by B.C.'s provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry have already sold out.

The presale was yesterday and by today, April 24, the company put a notice on its website that all 200 pairs that retailed for $339 apiece had been snapped up. All the profits from the pink heels went to support Food Banks B.C.

The shoes were such a hot commodity that the presale crashed the site. All in all, the excitement prompted the shoe designer to joke online "we've all aged a couple of years in the past three hours."

"Congrats to those of you who managed to get a pair of the Dr. Henry shoe. We are now sold out," a Fluevog employee said on Twitter. "We're sorry for any stress caused — we clearly underestimated your enthusiasm — but are excited for the funds raised for @RealFoodBanksBC and promise to be better prepared in the future."

Dr. Henry commented on the shoe designer's homage in a recent press conference.

"I think it’s a wonderful thing and I am really appreciative of what John Fluevog does in the community and he makes beautiful shoes," she said, adding that it's an honour to work with him.

Food security for those who are under-housed or homeless is a cause she said she cares a great deal about.

In case there's any concern that the run on shoes was similar to the run on toilet paper, Fluevog had the good sense to limit sales to one pair per customer.
