KAMLOOPS - Police conducted distracted driving projects this week and the results are not encouraging.

The Kamloops RCMP Traffic Unit hit the road Oct. 23 and 24 and over five hours issued 44 distracted driving violation tickets, according to a release.

Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of crashes and it is entirely preventable, as are the casualties caused by the behaviour, the release says.

The fine for distracted driving is $368 plus four penalty points on your license.

Police encourage the public to make our streets and community safer by encouraging others to leave the phone alone while behind the wheel.
