VERNON - Downtown Vernon will light up for the holidays for the 25th year this weekend.
The whole community is invited to gather along 30 Avenue from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24 to celebrate the season and the holidays, and even do a little shopping.
The downtown Vernon Light Up is an anticipated, longstanding tradition that has taken place for the last 25 years filling downtown with families, visitors and festive fun.
Event organizers, the Downtown Vernon Association, are excited to welcome over 50 vendors who are participating in the light-up with activities, food, music, visits with Santa and more.
“This is Vernon’s kick-off to the winter,” explains events and promotions coordinator Dudley Coulter. “It’s a great way to fend off the cold and come together as a community while enjoying downtown’s unique character.”
This year, each block on 30 Avenue will have one main attraction with many other vendors and booths in between:
2900 Block: Colouring Contest by Wayside
3000 Block: Plasma Cars by Vernon Teach and Learn Ltd.
3100 Block: Visits with Santa by iNFOnews.ca
3200 Block: Bonfire and marshmallow roast by Santa’s Anonymous
3300 Block: Food Truck Alley by Valley First
3400 Block: Ornament Decorating by Nature’s Fare
There will be plenty of lights and sounds, food and warm refreshments. Vernon’s official Legacy Tree will light up at 5 p.m. at the corner of 30 Avenue and 35 Street. Be sure to bring the kids to the iNFOnews.ca Santa's Headquarters to say hello to the man in red.
You can view all participating vendors and an event map here.
Coulter says this event is made possible by its generous sponsors: 105.7 Sun FM, Fortis BC, Valley First, iNFOnews.ca, Telus and the businesses of downtown Vernon.
