Please save the date - Friday Nov 6, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. which is also Random Acts of Kindness Day
We are pleased to announce that in collaboration with, Penticton Access Centre Society and the Downtown Penticton Association, our “Celebration of Life for Gordy” will take place in one of Gordy’s favorite early morning hang outs; Nanaimo Square. Gordon Kennedy passed away on Oct. 3 , he was well known and loved by merchants and others who frequented the downtown.
"He was a man of meager means with no apparent family that found himself without a roof over his head several times, yet he always offered a kind word or gesture while never expecting anything in return." stated LeAnne Jakubeit, one of the organizers of the event. "There was many a cold morning where one would arrive to find Gordy had beaten us merchants to shoveling away the snow in the downtown core".
Penticton Access Centre Society was always a resource for Gordy, and they will be on hand to take donations in Gordon’s memory for their Pay It Forward fund. Downtown Penticton Association has partnered to help with road closures and promotion. There will be free coffee from Starbucks, and Jeffer’s Fryzz will be donating all proceeds during Gordy’s celebration of life to the Access Centre’s Pay It Forward fund in honor of Gordon Kennedy. There will be an open mic for those wishing to share stories after the service.
"Some of us merchants wanted to give back to Gordon as he was a fixture in our downtown and has no family. We wanted to honor him this Friday," said LeAnne.
Please come join us Nov 6, 4-6 p.m. Nanaimo Square.
