A dog was found wandering near a burned out vehicle that contained an unidentified body near Chase last Friday.

“Investigators are releasing a photo of this dog hoping someone may recognize it, which might help the investigation,” states a news release from the RCMP’s Southeast District major crimes unit issued today, April 26.

Police responded to a report of the burned, older model sedan just before 1 p.m. in the area of Skmana Lake Road and Loakin Bear Creek Road near Chase.

“Upon further inspection, the body of an unknown individual was found inside the vehicle,” the news release said. “As this is an unexpected and suspicious death the Southeast District major crimes unit has taken conduct of the investigation.”

This is a popular recreational area so police are asking anyone with information or dash cam footage to call them at 1-877-987-8477.

Investigators are still trying to identify the body and no further details are being released at this time.
