Divers search for body of Kamloops man presumed drowned in Thompson river

The search continues for a man presumed drowned in the Thompson River in Kamloops.

The search continues for the body of a man who is presumed drowned after he was swept away by the Thompson River in Kamloops on the long weekend.

Witnesses told police the man entered the river at McArthur Island Park at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 30, and was swept away by the current and did not resurface.

Passersby attempted to assist but were unable to reach him and several boats in the area also responded but were also unable to find him.

An extensive search was conducted by Kamloops Fire and Rescue along with the RCMP, and now the RCMP underwater recovery team has been called in.

“So far, police have searched the area by boat, plane and drone,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn said.

“The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team is engaged in the investigation. Sadly, the man has not been located yet.”

The scene of the incident along the river remains taped off at McArthur Island Park.
