Death on Penticton mountain bike trail being looked into by coroner

FILE PHOTO

RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating the sudden death of a mountain biker in Penticton.

The cyclist was riding with a group of other cyclists approximately one kilometre from Riddle Road in Penticton June 6 and at 11 a.m. he had fallen off his bicycle and became unresponsive. Emergency crews were called in at that point.

"Efforts were made to revive the 58-year-old Kelowna resident, however sadly those efforts were unsuccessful,"  Const. James Grandy said in a press release. "RCMP do not believe that criminality was involved in the man's sudden death."

The B.C. Coroners Service was notified, attended the scene and is also investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

The Coroners Service’s fact-finding investigation will look to determine who died and how, where, when and by what means they came to their unexpected death.

Singer Leah West identified the man on social media as her husband Mark West, the founder and managing broker with Epic Real Estate.

The couple has a young child together.
