Death of person whose body was found on Vernon street not suspicious

Police cordon off an area of 15 Avenue where a body was found this morning, Feb. 28, 2022.

RCMP have confirmed that criminality wasn't involved after a body was found in the early morning last week on a quiet Vernon street.

According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP release issued today, March 10, an investigation has concluded that the death wasn't suspicious.

Originally, police said they were treating the discovery of the body found in the 4100 block of 15 Avenue as suspicious.

However, police now report an investigation, which involved the B.C. Coroners Service, found no evidence to suggest criminality was involved in the person’s death.

The body was discovered on the quiet street at around 6:45 a.m., Feb. 28, by a resident.

RCMP said out of respect for the privacy of the deceased, no additional information will be released.

"The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP offers our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the man," the release read.
