An uninsured motorcycle rider got into even deeper trouble when he tried to flee from police in West Kelowna.

The motorcycle was spotted by an officer in the Shannon Lake Road and Tallus Ridge Road area in West Kelowna at around 8:10 p.m. yesterday, Sept. 20, according to an RCMP release.

The officer tried to pull the motorcycle over because the bike's insurance was reported to have expired six days earlier.

But when the rider noticed the red and blue lights he accelerated from 50 km/h – the posted speed limit – to 100 km/h and began passing other traffic in the residential neighbourhood.

The officer decided not to pursue for the safety reasons and pulled over turning off the lights and siren.

It wasn’t hard to identify the man since officer’s had his license plate number. When the officer showed up at the suspect's home in West Kelowna they saw a Ford Escape departing. The officer pulled the vehicle over and the driver was identified as the wife of the motorcycle owner. She was on her way to pick him up.

Meanwhile, the officer also learned the motorcycle had been parked and the rider was seen running away.

Police found the bike parked on Stone Grove Crescent and located the owner who admitted he had fled.

The motorbike was impounded for seven days and the man was ticketed for speeding, having no insurance and failing to stop.

“Riding a motorcycle or any other motor vehicle at high speeds in a residential neighbourhood is not only dangerous to the operator, but to the public,” RCMP Const. Mike Della-Paolera said in the release.

“If caught, you will lose your vehicle and certainly be fined, it’s not worth the risk.”
