KAMLOOPS - The quick thinking of a nearby homeowner kept a small fire near Highway 1 in Dallas from getting out of hand this afternoon.
Fire crews were called out to a grass fire near Pat Road and Highway 1 just before 2:30 p.m, June 11.
Capt. Darryl Cooper with Kamloops Fire Rescue says a nearby homeowner was taking out his garbage when he saw flames and smoke on the side of the road. He called 9-1-1 and started spraying the fire with a garden hose.
When crews arrived little work was left for firefighters but Cooper says they are lucky it didn’t get any bigger because of how windy it is today.
Cooper is unsure what caused the fire, which burned in two small patches, each about five metres wide.
Kamloops Fire Rescue attended the scene of a grass fire near Pat Road and Highway 1 today, June 11, 2015.
