HARTFORD, Conn. - Connecticut has reported 17 new coronavirus deaths, bringing its total to 4,055, the governor announced Saturday as the state prepares for an accelerated reopening of businesses.
Gov. Ned Lamont's office announced Friday that a second phase of reopening, originally scheduled to begin for June 20, will now happen on June 17. That is when movie theatres, tattoo parlours, spas, gyms, fitness studios, bowling alleys and amusement parks and nail salons will be allowed to open again and restaurants can resume indoor dining.
On Saturday. Lamont said the number of positive cases grew by more than 350, to more than 43,800.
For most people, the virus causes mild or moderate symptoms. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness or lead to death.

CAMPGROUNDS TO OPEN
The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said Saturday that Connecticut campgrounds will reopen July 8. Reservations can be made beginning on June 20.
Campers with recreational vehicles can keep reservations for dates starting with July 1. Campgrounds will reopen for RV and tent camping on July 8. Reservations before those dates will be refunded.
