MONTREAL - Authorities on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean say alleged killer Luka Rocco Magnotta could return to Canada today.

A spokesman for Berlin's prosecutor's office believes Magnotta will be extradited today to Canada.

But Martin Steltner says he could not yet confirm it.

Montreal police, meanwhile, could not confirm when Magnotta will return to Canadian soil — but a spokeswoman also says it could happen today.

The 29-year-old Magnotta is the prime suspect in last month's killing and dismemberment of Montreal university student Jun Lin.

Authorities would also not confirm a CBC report that said Magnotta was already aboard a Royal Canadian Air Force plane en route to Canada.
