PEACHLAND – Firefighters quickly extinguished a house fire in Peachland this afternoon.

A report of thick, black smoke pouring from a window in the home at 6246 Sanderson Ave. at 3:54 p.m., Jan. 18 sent Peachland fire crews into action.

Fire chief Dennis Craig says the blaze was contained to a bedroom in the single-story home, but there is substantial smoke damage in the rest of the house.

He says the family cat was found dead in the home.

The family of four wasn’t at home at home at the time of fire.

They'll be out of their house for a few days and are in the care of Emergency Social Services.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it isn’t considered suspicious.
