VANCOUVER - A 28-year-old North Vancouver man will face two charges related to a head-on crash that closed the Lions Gate Bridge for hours during the morning rush hour in early December.
West Vancouver Police say the charges under the Motor Vehicle Act include driving without due care and attention, and using an electronic device while driving.
Police note the allegation of cellphone use is linked to witness reports and phone records suggesting the device was being used as the northbound sedan headed toward the bridge, but the phone was not sending or receiving when the crash occurred.
The North Vancouver man was seriously hurt in the Dec. 3 crash and is still recovering from multiple broken bones, cuts and bruises.
A North Vancouver couple in the southbound SUV were not seriously hurt.
Investigators had already ruled out road conditions, speed and alcohol as reasons that could have caused the car to veer into the centre lane of the bridge, hitting the oncoming SUV.
