After two years of cancellations due to the COVID pandemic, the CP Holiday Train will return this winter.
Each year, the train is adorned with Christmas lights and live music, and rolls across Canada, including Kamloops and Salmon Arm, to raise money for local food banks.
This year, Salmon Arm Mayor Alan Harrison announced via Facebook that the Holiday Train will be in Canoe on Dec. 15, at 6:30 p.m. and at 7:45 p.m. it will be in Salmon Arm. CP said via email that a full stop schedule will be available later this month.
It's great to see its return as people have been wanting to get outdoors and it brings an influx of items to the Salmon Arm food bank during its busiest time of the year, Harrison said.
Since its inception in 1999, the CP Holiday Train has raised $19.4 million and collected 4.9 million pounds of food for community food banks along the rail company's network.
"We look forward to the Holiday Train visiting communities across the CP network in November and December 2022," a post on the Holiday Train's website reads. A virtual fundraising concert was held the past two years due to the pandemic.
