COVID-19 vaccination clinic set for Big White Ski Resort

A COVID-19 vaccination clinic will be set up this weekend for those living and working at Big White Ski Resort.

Interior Health will have an immunization clinic at Big White Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21 to vaccinate "people who live in a congregate setting within a non-family household at Big White," according to a post on Big White’s website.

A COVID-19 cluster initially declared Dec. 15, 2020 at Big White led to 237 people testing positive for the virus.

People must pre-register to receive an appointment to be vaccinated. The link to register can be found here.

To be vaccinated, persons must be 18 or older and those who are actively sick can’t be vaccinated.

The clinic will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the lower floor of the Happy Valley Day Lodge and AstraZeneca vaccines will be provided, according to Big White.

This week, Health Canada said the benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine outweigh the risks and encouraged people to get immunized with any of the vaccines that are authorized in the country.

"Scientists believe this is coincidence or correlation and not causation from the vaccine," Big White said. “Once the vaccine is offered to you, you can delay your vaccination and hope that a different vaccine is available at a later date. However, there is no guarantee that you will get a specific brand of vaccine later."

The longer residents wait, the longer they remain unprotected from COVID-19, Big White said.

Interior Health did not respond to a request for comment.
