From May 2 to 8, the region recorded 323 new cases, the lowest weekly tally since mid-March, based on information posted on the B.C. Centre for Disease Control website.

Kamloops Local Health Area led the way, dropping to 33 new cases from 57. Penticton cases fell to 15 from 34 while the Central Okanagan recorded 162 cases last week, down only slightly from the 174 the week before.

Vernon also saw only a small decline to 22 from 25. The South Okanagan dropped to three cases from 14.

There were small increases in a few Local Health Areas.

Golden remained the hot spot in the region with the highest per capita case rate but, even there, case counts dropped to 12 from 16.

A special Whole Community Vaccination Approach is underway in Golden where everyone older than 18 can book vaccinations between May 8 and 16.

As of today, May 13, there are 484 active COVID cases in the Interior Health region, with 26 people in hospital, 10 of whom are in critical care.
