The iconic corn maze at Historic O’Keefe Ranch is becoming the stage for 18 nights of horror this October.

Field of Screams: Theatre of Terror is promised to be one of the most bone-chilling, hair raising events the Okanagan has ever seen, according to a media release.

It is the sequel to the ranch’s very first Field of Screams in 2013 which featured plots from multiple cinematic horror films. Four different mazes will each have their own specific horror movie genre theme.

The first maze called Classics from the Crypt recreates horror stories we grew up with but with darker twists and characters like Dracula, the amphibious creature of the Black Lagoon, Wolfman and Frankenstein.

The second maze called Nightmare Next Door features 1980’s classic neighbourhood horror, bringing slasher-horror film characters to life.

“If you take a wrong turn in Nightmare Next Door you may not make it out alive,” the release said.

Maze number three, called Forgotten Space, is in an alternate sci-fi dimension with menacing alien creatures that stalk participants, while the fourth maze is Welcome to the Darkside, returning from last year due to popular demand.

“The dark maze will include several exciting surprises that were not featured last year, but with only darkness as the theme. We dare you to walk through without using your flashlight and only your imagination to keep you company.”

Located 12 kilometres north of Vernon, the Historic O’Keefe Ranch is a popular destination for families, offering interactive activities and events all year round.

The dates for this year’s Field of Screams will be Sept. 30, Oct. 1, 6-8, 12-15, 19-22 and 26-30.

Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and the event will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
