Cops execute drug-related search warrant at downtown Kelowna store

FILE PHOTO

Kelowna RCMP officers raided a downtown Kelowna business this afternoon, but police are releasing few details.

Police said in a media release a warrant was executed at a business in the 200 block of Lawrence Avenue today, Nov. 24. RCMP did not identify the business only saying the warrant was authorized under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Although police didn't identify the business, psilocybin dispensary Essence Wellness has been selling mushrooms on that block for months.

iNFOnews.ca spoke with owner Benny Dornan earlier this month, following similar raids in the Lower Mainland. He said the Vancouver stores were running riskier operations because they sold other controlled drugs beyond psilocybin and he hoped police may leave the Kelowna "compassion club" alone.

iNFOnews.ca has not been able to reach Dornan by phone.

“This investigation is ongoing and there are no concerns for safety to the general public," Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Const. Mike Della-Paolera said in the release.

Const. Della-Paolera also said no further information about the investigation will be released to the public.
